Festival Poster Artist Mark Brown's "A Lazy Day in Hale'iwa" The Hale'iwa Arts Festival Art Committee has selected Mark Brown as poster artist for its Fifth Annual Summer Event. Mark N. Brown was born and raised in Hawaii and has been painting "en plein air" (painting outdoors) since 1993. After graduating from Castle High School in Kaneohe, Hawaii, Mark worked nights as a waiter while pursuing his independent studies of art during the day. While he is largely a self-taught artist, Mark gives credit to attending uninstructed life drawing classes and his interest in on site creativity and inspiration for his individual and painterly style. Mark's art emerges from his direct, on site observation, and this immediacy generates in his works, their strong sense of color and design. His penchant for landscape paintings has expanded and his repertoire also includes murals, portraits and commissioned works of his clients' favorite sites around the Hawaiian Islands. He also teaches "painting on location" in oils and acrylic with the University of Hawaii at Manoa Outreach Program. His adult students vary in skills from beginners to seasoned painters. Mark's works can be viewed by appointment at his Honolulu studio, (808) 842-0505, or at Robyn Buntin Oceanic Gallery, Bibelot, and Cedar Street Galleries in Honolulu, and at The Gallery and Garden, LLC in Kaneohe. He also exhibits at many Pacific Handcrafters' Guild events held throughout the year in various Honolulu parks. You can enjoy a variety of his works on the web at www.marksarthawaii.com Mr. Brown recently created his new work, "A Lazy Day in Hale'iwa", specifically to assist the Hale'iwa Arts Festival in promoting its events and supporting fine arts programs in Oahu's North Shore communities. "A Lazy Day in Hale'iwa", the use of which Mark has generously donated, will be reproduced on Festival posters and shirts for the Hale'iwa Arts Festival Fifth Annual Summer Event to be held at Hale'iwa Beach Park on July 20 & 21, 2002. |
