The Hale'iwa Arts Festival has, beginning in 1999, provided over $19,000 in financial support for school arts programs. In 2008 we are working to substantially add to that amount. Funding from the DOE and private sources does not sufficiently meet the needs for arts education in our schools. Hale'iwa Elementary, Ho'ala School in Wahiawa, Kahuku Elementary, Kahuku High and Intermediate, Saint Michael's School in Waialua, Sunset Beach Elementary,Sunset Beach Christian School, Waialua High and Intermediate, and Waialua Elementary have all been recipients of our past support. Mahalos from these schools reflect the results: "...it's like a shot in the arm", "...a big help… funding has been shrinking", "...will provide our three visual arts academies with art supplies", "Your support has helped us build a nationally recognized art program." One school said it all so simply, "...strengthens the love and appreciation for the Arts." You can support our area arts programs through your membership, contributions, in-kind goods and services, grants and sponsorships. By purchasing items from "Cool Stuff to Buy", art items donated by our participating artists, a beverage or a food item, you also help to support our school programs and other arts activities within our community. If arts people don't support arts programs in our schools, who will? |
